Moderator Code of Conduct

Summary & Key Takeaways (TL;DR)
  • Moderators are the foundation of healthy, vibrant SpillHub communities.
  • Moderators must act with integrity, transparency, and consistency.
  • Moderator actions may never be traded, sold, or performed in exchange for compensation or private commercial gain.

Rule 1: Create Welcoming, Healthy Communities

Moderators establish the tone and cultural norms of their spaces. We expect moderators to cultivate vibrant, constructive discussion spaces where diverse viewpoints can flourish safely.

Moderators must uphold SpillHub's Platform Rules within their communities and take prompt action to remove content that violates foundational standards.

Rule 2: Set Clear Expectations & Follow Them

Communities must clearly publish their specific rules in the community sidebar. Rules must be explicit, understandable, and consistently enforced.

Moderators must not enforce unwritten rules or apply rules arbitrarily or vindictively against members holding differing technical or philosophical perspectives.

Rule 3: Respect Fellow Moderators & Community Members

Moderators should work collaboratively with their co-moderators and communicate constructively with community members.

When taking moderation actions (post removals, user bans), provide concise, constructive explanations referencing the specific rule violated whenever feasible.

Rule 4: Moderate Transparently & Handle Appeals Fairly

Moderators must provide community members with an accessible mechanism to appeal moderation decisions (such as modmail or community support threads).

Appeals should be reviewed impartially, and errors should be corrected promptly with professional courtesy.

Rule 5: No Commercialization or Quid Pro Quo

Moderator status is a position of community trust, not a business asset. You may not accept payment, gifts, consulting fees, advertising revenue, tokens, or any other form of compensation in exchange for performing or withholding moderator actions.

Specifically, you may not sell sticky post slots, offer paid post approvals, whitelist promotional domains for money, or auction off moderation privileges.
